Flat steel bar — a rectangular cross-section product with width greater than thickness — is one of the most versatile steel profiles in industrial supply. Its simple geometry enables applications ranging from structural stiffeners and base plates to precision-machined components in heavy equipment manufacturing. Construction and Structural Steel Applications

In steel-framed buildings, flat bars serve as connection plates, gusset plates, and splice plates that transfer forces between primary structural members. Agricultural equipment manufacturers use flat bar for plow frames, cultivator tines, and harrow bars where toughness and weldability are essential. The rectangular section provides a flat surface for bolted attachment of wear components while offering predictable bending behavior under soil-engagement loads.

For tool and die making, ground flat stock — produced from hot-rolled flat bar with precision surface grinding — serves as the starting material for jigs, fixtures, and gauge components. Thickness tolerances of ±0.05 mm are achievable through grinding, suitable for alignment-critical assembly tooling.

Conveyor system manufacturers use flat bar as rail supports, guide tracks, and mounting bases for roller assemblies. Standard hot-rolled tolerances are sufficient for most conveyor applications, with galvanized flat bar specified for food processing and outdoor conveyor lines.
